About Ted Oshman
Owner and Principal Attorney of The Oshman Firm

Ted Oshman, also known professionally as Theodore Oshman, is an experienced trial attorney with over 4 decades of experience representing individuals affected by corporate negligence, defective products, and medical malpractice. As the owner and principal attorney of The Oshman Firm, a prominent plaintiff litigation practice operating in New Jersey and New York City, he has secured more than $500 million in recoveries for his clients. Since beginning his legal career in 1984 and assuming ownership of the firm in 1985, he has focused on securing justice for those harmed by negligence, pharmaceutical failures, and medical malpractice.

He completed his undergraduate studies in Biology at the University of Rochester. This scientific background gave him a keen understanding of the technical aspects of many cases, particularly those related to medical malpractice and pharmaceutical claims. After completing his undergraduate degree, he pursued his Juris Doctor at Brooklyn Law School, where he gained a strong foundation in law and litigation. He also enhanced his professional education through additional coursework at the New York University School of Professional Studies, expanding his knowledge into broader business disciplines. He is licensed to practice law in both New York and New Jersey and has represented clients nationwide.

In 1984, Ted Oshman began practicing law with The Oshman Firm and its predecessor entities. Early in his career, his practice focused on representing clients harmed by defective products, unsafe pharmaceuticals, environmental contamination, and medical errors. These cases often involved complex issues and required Oshman’s careful attention to detail and strategic approach to litigation. In 1985, he took ownership of The Oshman Firm. Since then, he has led the firm through numerous successful cases, building its reputation in complex mass torts and catastrophic injury cases.

Under his leadership, The Oshman Firm has developed a strong presence in several specialized practice areas, including environmental litigation, medical malpractice, pharmaceutical and medical device litigation, and personal injury law. His extensive experience and hands-on leadership have played a critical role in the firm’s success. Over the years, The Oshman Firm has been appointed as lead counsel or co-lead counsel in several high-profile mass tort litigations. He has also served in various court-designated leadership roles, including liaison counsel and positions on Plaintiffs’ Steering Committees in Multi-County Litigations involving drug product liability and medical device claims.

In 2019, The Oshman Firm was recognized as one of the “Best Lawyers Best Law Firms” by U.S. News & World Report, an acknowledgment of its continued success and strong reputation in the legal community. This recognition reflects the firm’s commitment to excellence and its ongoing efforts to secure favorable results for clients in a wide range of complex litigation matters.

Throughout his career, he has recovered more than $500 million for clients across various practice areas. His success in mass tort litigation includes notable recoveries, including over $55 million in the Roundup litigation and more than $40 million in the transvaginal mesh litigation. These cases were part of Oshman’s continued focus on representing individuals who have suffered harm due to unsafe products and negligent corporate behavior.

In medical malpractice litigation, Ted Oshman has secured significant recoveries for clients, including a case in which he obtained a $42 million cash payment and a structured annuity following a healthcare provider’s failure to monitor labor progress, resulting in permanent injury to the patient. These types of cases are particularly challenging, and his ability to navigate the complexities of medical malpractice law has been instrumental in securing such significant outcomes for his clients.
